Professional registration
Practice in Colombia requires registration with the relevant health authority, and practitioners hold a professional identification number that can be requested directly.
The undergraduate degree and any postgraduate specialisation should be identifiable by institution and year. Both are reasonable requests and neither should meet with resistance.
Specialisation is a distinct qualification
A general dental degree and a formal postgraduate specialisation in prosthodontics, periodontics or oral surgery are separate credentials obtained over several additional years.
The distinction is material in complex implant and full-arch treatment, and the term specialist should be verified rather than accepted.
Who performs which procedure
In larger practices, the clinician conducting the consultation is not necessarily the clinician performing the surgery or designing the prosthesis. The identity and qualifications of each should be established before treatment is agreed.

Corroborating evidence
Membership of recognised professional societies, documented continuing education, and published or presented clinical work provide additional corroboration. Photographic case documentation demonstrating standardised records over time indicates a systematic approach to clinical practice.
