What to Pack for a Dental Treatment Trip

Packing for a treatment trip is mostly ordinary packing with about six things added. Those six make a disproportionate difference.

Documents that matter

Any previous radiographs or CBCT files, on a USB stick and in the cloud. Any treatment plan or quote you have been given elsewhere. A written list of your medications with doses, and your physician’s contact details.

Bring the quote even if you have decided against it. Walking through what it did and did not include is often the most useful ten minutes of the first appointment.

Medication and comfort

All your regular medication in hand luggage, in original packaging, with enough for several extra days in case plans shift. Lip balm, because retractors and a long appointment are hard on lips.

A soft travel pillow is more useful than it sounds if you have had surgery and are sleeping propped up.

Food you can actually eat

You will be on soft food for a few days and shopping in an unfamiliar city while sore is nobody’s idea of fun. Protein shakes or soup sachets from home solve the first forty-eight hours.

A blender is not necessary. Somewhere with a kettle and a fridge is.

Clothes, and the mistake everyone makes

Bogota is cool and often grey, sitting at 8,600 feet, and people pack for the Caribbean constantly. Bring layers and a light waterproof.

Bring button-up shirts rather than things you pull over your head. After facial swelling you will be glad of it.

Everything else you can buy locally. The files, the medication list and the first two days of soft food are the ones worth being deliberate about.
