Bogota’s weather is one of the more common misconceptions we encounter, and it has genuine practical consequences for a treatment trip.
The climate, honestly
Bogota sits at 8,600 feet near the equator, which means it has no real seasons and is cool year-round. Daytime temperatures typically sit in the high teens Celsius, dropping noticeably after dark.
It is not tropical, it is not hot, and it is frequently grey. Patients pack for Cartagena and arrive shivering with regularity.
Rain
There are two wetter periods, roughly April to May and October to November, though rain is possible at any time. It tends to arrive in the afternoon and pass rather than persist all day.
This affects treatment trips very little beyond traffic, which worsens considerably in the rain. Allow more time to reach appointments.
The sun, which catches people out
At this altitude and latitude, UV is strong even when it is cloudy and cool. Sunburn on an overcast day is entirely possible.
This matters after facial surgery, where healing tissue is more susceptible. Sun protection is worth packing despite the temperature.
Other practicalities
Ride-hailing apps work well and are the usual way to move around. Card payment is widely accepted. Tap water in the city is safe.
Sunday morning is the pleasantest time to see the city, when major roads close to traffic and fill with cyclists and pedestrians.
Pack layers, a light waterproof and sun protection, and allow generous time for journeys in the rain. That covers nearly everything the climate will throw at your schedule.
