The initial remote consultation determines whether treatment abroad is appropriate for a given patient, and its value depends substantially on the questions the patient brings to it.
Regarding diagnosis
What are the findings, and on what evidence are they based. Whether cross-sectional imaging will be required before a definitive plan is issued. Which teeth, if any, are proposed for extraction and whether alternatives exist.
What the consequences of no treatment would be over five years, which establishes whether the proposal is necessary or elective.
Regarding the plan
The number of implants proposed and the basis for that number. The material of the definitive prosthesis. Whether an aesthetic try-in stage is included before irreversible preparation.
What alternatives were considered and why they were not recommended.
Regarding logistics and cost
The number of visits and the duration of each. The interval between stages. Whether the quotation is definitive or provisional pending imaging, and which components could alter it.
The deposit terms, the cancellation position, and the accepted methods of payment.
Regarding responsibility
Who performs the surgical phase and who the prosthetic phase, with qualifications. The implant system by name. The warranty terms and their exclusions. The arrangement for remote review and for remedial treatment following return.
Interpreting the response
The completeness and specificity of the answers, and the willingness to commit them to writing, constitute the substantive output of the consultation. A provisional quotation accompanied by clear reasoning is more informative than a definitive figure offered without it.
Prepare these questions in advance and record the answers. The consultation is an assessment of the provider as much as of the patient.
